Additional American Prince: A Memoir Information

“All my life I had one dream and that was to be in the movies.”

He was the Golden Boy of the Golden Age. A prince of the silver screen. Dashing and debonair, Tony Curtis arrived on the scene in a blaze of bright lights and celluloid. His good looks, smooth charm, and natural talent earned him fame, women, and adulation—Elvis copied his look and the Beatles put him on their Sgt. Pepper album cover. But the Hollywood life of his dreams brought both invincible highs and debilitating lows. Now, in his captivating, no-holds-barred autobiography, Tony Curtis shares the agony and ecstasy of a private life in the public eye.

No simple tell-all, American Prince chronicles Hollywood during its heyday. Curtis revisits his immense body of work—including the unforgettable classics Houdini, Spartacus, and Some Like It Hot—and regales readers with stories of his associations with Frank Sinatra, Laurence Olivier, director Billy Wilder, and film industry heavyweight Lew Wasserman, as well as paramours Natalie Wood and Marilyn Monroe, among others.

As forthright as he is enthralling, Tony Curtis offers intimate glimpses into his succession of failed marriages (and the one that has endured), his destructive drug addiction, and his passion as a painter. Written with humor and grace, American Prince is a testament to the power of living the life of one’s dreams.

From the Hardcover edition.

What Customers Say About American Prince: A Memoir:

I have no reason to doubt the truth of anything he wrote. For that, for the courage to do that I give him full marks. For the book itself, it's a very well written book and easy to read. It makes for a pretty gritty read, and for some people, it'll be pretty hard to like him after you read it.But make no mistake, this isn't an unauthorized bio, it's a memoir, or an autobiography (ghostwritten). It's very informational and interesting. I'm only writing this review of how good a book this is and whether I'd recommend it to you.No doubt, there will be some reviewers who'll give this book a low rating because they disapprove of his life/lifestyle. There are 2 kinds of memoirs. One which is like a 500 page advert for themselves in which they knock nobody down and only promote themselves and then there are the no holds barred, no punches pulled ones. It'll definitely ruffle a lot of feathers.

And so he lays it all out. I learned a lot more about Curtis than I ever knew. Instead, he directly and indirectly exposed his insecurities, the lows in his life and his wrongs. You can also title this book "Everything you ever wanted to know about Tony Curtis but was afraid to ask." I would highly recommend it, especially to people who are not judgemental. So he laid himself out; how many people have the courage to do that. And I salute Curtis for it. He gave us the low down, from his point of view. Curtis' memoir is the 2nd kind.I'm not writing this review as a judge of Curtis' life and what he's done.

He could have written a 500 page whitewash, lied about everything, praised everyone, admitted his mistakes, asked for our penitence, and written a book which everyone would "love". At this point Curtis has reached a time in his life where he doesn't care what you think, or whether you like him or not, in fact, he was pretty candid about it in the book. It's partly a kiss and tell book and partly a confession. The guys who he thought were jerks, he said it; the nice guys he praised them; the women he slept with, he exposed them all; his wives, he told us everything.

if you are a fan you'll love it he is still very 'alive and kicking'. Great book, quick delivery, I can recommend it to everyone still being interested in the life of the uncrowned American Prince. check out his appearance in the 'Friday Night With Jonathan Ross' show at You tube.

Saw the "Turtlenecks" play in Detroit that he mentions, was horrible but great to see him in person. Thought he was very honest throughout the book. I learned a lot I didn't know about him, just loved the book and will keep it for the pictures - he was so, so handsome. I loved this book. I've been a huge Tony Curtis fan most of my life and I read it in 2 days, could hardly put it down.

I enjoyed this book, easy read and interesting info on Tony's back ground and other stars that he was in the movies with.

The anecdotes are not so much amusing as self aggrandizing. This was a man who never met a woman he didn't try to have sex with and yet he was horrified when he was cuckolded by his wife and astonished that his marriages failed. I liked Tony Curtis before I read this book. You will never be able to look at him the same way again. He claims to be self aware but apparently he never learned anything from his mistakes. He relentlessly trashes people who are dead and cannot defend themselves. If you enjoy his movies, don't read the book. I usually enjoy show biz bios but this one is so unremittingly nasty, I finally gave up about 3/4 of the way through. Even the people he claimed to like are trashed.
